Hot Stuff (last updated: February 2002)

This is no feeble attempt at product affiliation or money making on our part (though some links we are affiliated with), this is instead our own product guide on what's hot, and what's not in the world of audio & video. In most cases we actually own the equipment ourselves, so the reviews are totally fair! (Top 5 products)

Yamada DVX-6100 MPEG4 Multi-region DVD Player

This is simply the cheapest most feature packed DVD player currently on the market. It plays more than you can shake a stick at, including all the usual VCD, SVCD, MP3, Kodak picture CD's, JPEG cd's. Best of all though, it plays MPEG-4 and XviD, not only that even DIVX!!! - what more could you ask for, well a cheap price? - what about 89.99! - available for delivery now from
In Association with
Alice Band - The Love Junk Store

I discovered this new band (album only out May 2002) quite by accident. Their first single release "Now that you love me" sounded very similar to Alisha's Attic Vs. Wilson Phillips, two of my favourite bands. The album is straight forward quality all the way through, and appeals even on the first listen (very rare I find that!). Bargain at only 9.99.

Futurama - Season 1 Box Set (DVD)

What can I say about this? - Nothing! It's Futurama, complete season 1 and every self respecting human being should own it!!! Available now at for 35.99. Made by the same team as The Simpsons you know it's gonna be fantastic.
Digital Camera - Fuji FinePix 2600

Finally a digital camera that is within most of our price ranges. The Fuji FinePix 2600 is currently selling for 229.99 which for the quality of pics it takes it pretty unbeatable. The camera itself is a decent size, not too small not too big. Features include; 1.8-inch colour LCD, 2.0 megapixel CCD, USB connector to PC, Smart media cards for storage. When you team this camera with Viking 64MB SmartMedia Card 3.3 Volt, things really come into their own. You start to find you can store 100's of pictures on a single smart media card, or even better small movie files (without sound) which is great fun! If you are looking at purchasing your first digital camera then this is going to be much much more than you would have expected to get.
Family Guy - Season 1 complete (DVD)

There could not possibly be any doubt in my mind over this recommendation, this is one of the funniest DVD's to be released ever! - On par with the Simpsons and Futurama (though much much ruder!) this was the suprise hit at the end of 2001. Currently selling at 23.99 for a 2 disk DVD set (yep all 14 episodes from series one). This has taken pride of place in my DVD collection where it is viewed on a weekly basis.
